Listen, Speak and Remember

Free Years 1–3 English practice — listen, discuss, read aloud, write from dictation, name letters and recite. No recording and no account needed.

About Listen, Speak and Remember

Use original audio prompts for listening and dictation, then complete bounded spoken practice with learner or adult confirmation. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Practise listening, discussion, clear reading aloud, sentence dictation, letter names and recitation without recording a voice.

Curriculum anchor: England English programmes of study for Years 1–3: spoken language, listening and discussion, reading aloud, dictation, alphabet letter names and recitation. Partial support only.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Help with spoken self-checks when available. Browser speech synthesis supplies a model, but the game never records or automatically judges a learner’s voice. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
