Free Year 3 writing practice — choose formal or informal letter language and organise a clear formal message. No account needed.
Choose formal or informal wording for a stated reader and purpose, classify supplied sentences by register, and recognise selected parts of a clear formal letter. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.
Learning objective: Choose language and simple organisation that fit the stated reader and purpose of a supplied letter.
Curriculum anchor: England English programme of study: Years 3–4 composition for audience and purpose and growing awareness of differences between speech and writing.
This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.
Name a real reader and ask the learner to rewrite one sentence for that person. Conventions vary, so discuss the chosen greeting and closing rather than treating one style as universal. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.
Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
