Living Things Sorter

Free Year 4 science practice — group vertebrates, invertebrates and plants using observable features. No account needed.

About Living Things Sorter

Sort supplied named living things into selected fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, mammal, invertebrate and plant groups. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Sort supplied organism names into predefined groups using the displayed descriptions and relevant knowledge. This does not assess identification of unlabelled specimens.

Curriculum anchor: England Year 4 science: recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask which stated feature caused each placement and compare it with a safe real photograph or observation. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
