Pitch and Volume Lab

Free Year 4 science practice — vibrating sources, pitch patterns, volume, amplitude and distance. No account needed.

About Pitch and Volume Lab

Identify vibrating sources and reason from controlled string, bar, bottle, strike-strength and distance comparisons. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Distinguish pitch from volume and connect each with controlled source features, vibration strength and distance.

Curriculum anchor: England Year 4 science: find patterns between pitch and object features, volume and vibration strength, and fainter sound with distance.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Change one feature at a time at moderate sound levels; state whether bottles are blown or struck. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
