Poetry Forms

Free Year 3 poetry practice — recognise selected forms from their features. No account needed.

About Poetry Forms

Recognise selected poetry forms and structural terms from concise descriptions. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Recognise selected poetry forms and structural terms from their defining features.

Curriculum anchor: TheLearnDen Year 3 Recognise Forms of Poetry topic and the England English Years 3–4 reading programme of study, including recognising some different forms of poetry.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Read full examples aloud and discuss how real poems vary. The game uses short descriptions; it does not assess performance, comparison, discussion or composition. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
