Solid and Net Lab

Free Year 5 Maths practice — match supplied face sets and selected unambiguous nets to common 3D solids and check folding claims. No account needed.

About Solid and Net Lab

Use written face sets and specified arrangements to choose common solids and evaluate simple net claims. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Recognise common 3D solids from faces, properties and selected net descriptions. Selected net work follows the current site activities and is not presented as a standalone statutory Year 5 requirement.

Curriculum anchor: England Year 5 mathematics: identify 3D shapes, including cubes and other cuboids, from 2D representations.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Make paper versions of selected nets to test folding without overlap. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
