Year 4 Poetry Workshop

Free Year 4 English practice — recognise poetry forms, analyse rhyme and structure, and choose ideas for a supplied poem plan. No account needed.

About Year 4 Poetry Workshop

Recognise selected poetry forms, decode rhyme schemes, analyse structural choices and choose a line or note for a supplied poem plan. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Choose descriptions of poetic forms, rhyme and structure, and make planning choices from supplied options. Independent poem comparison, writing and performance are not assessed.

Curriculum anchor: England lower key stage 2 English: prepare poems to read aloud, discuss words and phrases and recognise different forms of poetry.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Pair the game with reading complete poems aloud and drafting an original verse; the game does not assess performance or independent writing. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
