Free Year 5 English practice — match vocabulary, features and persuasive choices to audience and purpose. No account needed.
Match language, structure, text features and persuasive devices to a stated audience and purpose. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.
Learning objective: Plan appropriate choices for who will read a text and what the writer wants that reader to know, feel or do.
Curriculum anchor: England upper KS2 writing: identify audience and purpose and select appropriate form, vocabulary, grammar and organisational devices.
This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.
Ask who will read the text and what response the writer wants before discussing the choices. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.
Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
