Evidence and Quotation Lab

Free Year 5 English practice — choose exact quotations and explain how evidence supports a point. No account needed.

About Evidence and Quotation Lab

Choose a supported point, the exact quotation that proves it and an explanation linking evidence to claim. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Use exact words from supplied original texts to support and justify a view.

Curriculum anchor: England upper KS2 reading: draw inferences with evidence and provide reasoned justifications for views.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to point to the smallest part of the quotation that carries the proof. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
