Forces in Motion Lab

Free Year 5 Science practice — reason about gravity, friction, resistance and changing motion. No account needed.

About Forces in Motion Lab

Explain gravity and compare friction, falling objects, air or water resistance and changing motion. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Use force models and supplied evidence to explain falling and resistance.

Curriculum anchor: England Year 5 Science: gravity causes unsupported objects to fall; air resistance, water resistance and friction affect motion.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to name the object, the force direction and the evidence before choosing. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
