Free Year 5 English practice — reason about silent letters, homophones, word families and tricky plurals. No account needed.
Reason about selected silent letters, homophones, word families and conventional or irregular plurals. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.
Learning objective: Choose spellings using meaning, morphology and specifically learnt patterns.
Curriculum anchor: England upper KS2 spelling: silent letters, homophones and often-confused words, morphology, etymology and specifically learnt spellings.
This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.
After each choice, ask the learner to cover the answer and write it once from memory. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.
Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
