Verb Choices Lab

Free Year 5 English practice — check tense agreement, perfect forms and degrees of possibility. No account needed.

About Verb Choices Lab

Check tense agreement, irregular forms, perfect constructions and modal degrees of possibility. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Select verb and adverb forms that make time and certainty clear in supplied sentences.

Curriculum anchor: England upper KS2 grammar: use tense consistently, perfect forms, modal verbs and adverbs indicating degrees of possibility.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to locate the time clue or certainty clue before choosing the verb form. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions
