Free Year 6 Science practice — trace how we see, predict reflection and shadows, and explain refraction. No account needed.
Trace how luminous and non-luminous objects are seen, apply reflection, predict shadow changes and distinguish straight-line travel, refraction and dispersion. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.
Learning objective: Trace how luminous and non-luminous objects are seen, apply reflection, predict shadow changes and distinguish straight-line travel, refraction and dispersion.
Curriculum anchor: England Year 6 science: recognise that light travels in straight lines; explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye; use this model to explain shadows; understand reflection and simple changes of direction.
This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.
Use labelled ray diagrams and supervised low-power practical equipment alongside the game; never direct a bright beam into anyone’s eyes. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.
Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
