Mean Lab

Free Year 6 Maths practice — calculate and interpret the mean, including tables and negative values. No account needed.

About Mean Lab

Calculate and interpret means from lists, tables and missing-value problems. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Calculate an arithmetic mean and use it to recover a total or missing value.

Curriculum anchor: England Year 6 Mathematics: calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to state the total and how many values they divide by. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
