Calculation Lab

Free Year 7 Maths practice — interpret calculator results, apply operation priority and check varied calculations. No account needed.

About Calculation Lab

Interpret calculator displays, apply operation priority, calculate with signed numbers, decimals and fractions, and check with inverse relationships. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Interpret calculator displays, apply operation priority, calculate with signed numbers, decimals and fractions, and check with inverse relationships.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 mathematics: use the four operations, conventional notation and calculators appropriately; use inverse operations and distributivity to support calculation.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to predict the sign and approximate size, show the priority order, then use an inverse check. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
