Light and Spectrum Lab

Free Year 7 Science practice — reason about light waves, materials, colour and dispersion. No account needed.

About Light and Spectrum Lab

Reason about selected light-wave properties, reflection, transmission, absorption, colour and dispersion. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Classify selected light interactions, explain perceived colour and trace how white light forms a spectrum.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Science: light waves; transmission through materials; absorption and reflection; colours and the different frequencies of white light.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask whether light is reflected, transmitted or absorbed and keep screen-light mixing distinct from pigment mixing. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
