Reaction Rates and Catalysts Lab

Free Year 7 Science practice — compare rates, collisions, catalysts and enzymes. No account needed.

About Reaction Rates and Catalysts Lab

Calculate selected rates, interpret reaction graphs and explain collision, catalyst and enzyme effects. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Measure bounded rate evidence, use collision theory to predict changes, and distinguish catalyst and enzyme action from uncontrolled effects.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Science: chemical reactions; rates; particle collisions; activation energy; catalysts; and enzymes as biological catalysts.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask which variable changed, what was controlled and whether the evidence shows rate, final amount or both. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
