Text Skills Lab

Free Year 7 English practice — scan for details, track viewpoint, compare texts and test nonfiction evidence. No account needed.

About Text Skills Lab

Scan supplied texts, identify viewpoint and purpose, compare paired fragments and test nonfiction evidence. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Scan supplied original texts, identify viewpoint and purpose, compare paired fragments and analyse bounded nonfiction evidence.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 English: understand increasingly challenging texts, make comparisons, retrieve information and recognise purpose, audience and context.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask for the exact word or structural feature supporting each answer and separate verifiable fact from interpretation. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
