Algebra Manipulation Lab

Free Year 8 Maths practice — use algebraic powers, expand brackets, rearrange and substitute into formulae. No account needed.

About Algebra Manipulation Lab

Use algebraic powers, expand brackets, rearrange formulae, substitute values and apply standard formulae. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Use bounded algebraic powers, expand supplied brackets, rearrange and substitute into formulae, and apply standard formulae.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 mathematics: use and interpret algebraic notation, substitute values, simplify and manipulate expressions, and use standard mathematical formulae.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Write every factor when checking powers, distribute across every bracket term and reverse formula operations in a balanced order. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
