Periodic Table Lab

Free Year 8 Science practice — use periodic-table structure, group patterns and Mendeleev’s evidence. No account needed.

About Periodic Table Lab

Use modern periodic-table layout, compare selected group trends and evaluate Mendeleev’s evidence and predictions. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Read table structure, connect outer-electron patterns to selected group behaviour and explain how predictions supported classification.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Science: periodic table; groups and periods; metals and non-metals; varying physical and chemical properties.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to distinguish an observed pattern from a universal rule and explain how a prediction could test a model. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
