Statistics and Spread Lab

Free Year 8 Maths practice — use cumulative frequency, averages, quartiles, box plots and data types. No account needed.

About Statistics and Spread Lab

Use cumulative frequency, calculate table-based averages, reason with quartiles and box plots, and classify data. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Use supplied cumulative frequencies and tables, calculate bounded averages, reason with quartiles and box plots, and classify data.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 mathematics: describe, interpret and compare observed distributions using appropriate graphical representation and measures of central tendency and spread.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Check totals before averages, read the five-number summary in order and compare both median and IQR. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
