Transformations Lab

Free Year 8 Maths practice — translate, reflect, rotate and describe transformations accurately. No account needed.

About Transformations Lab

Transform supplied coordinates and select complete descriptions of translations, reflections and rotations. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Use vectors, mirror lines and rotation centres to transform bounded coordinates and identify preserved properties.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Mathematics: identify, describe and construct translations, rotations and reflections on coordinate grids.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Require the vector, mirror line or centre-angle-direction details before accepting a transformation description. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
