Investigation Reasoning Lab

Free Year 9 Science practice — plan, measure, conclude and evaluate. No account needed.

About Investigation Reasoning Lab

Plan variable-based tests, choose justified measurements and draw cautious conclusions from supplied evidence. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Separate variables, measurement quality, patterns, limitations and conclusion strength in a reproducible investigation.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Science: experimental skills, analysis, evaluation, measurement, uncertainty and scientific attitudes.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask what was changed, measured and controlled, then what exact strength of conclusion the data permit. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
