Probability Trees Lab

Free Year 9 Maths practice — calculate tree paths and without-replacement probabilities. No account needed.

About Probability Trees Lab

Multiply along probability-tree paths, add disjoint outcomes and update branches after draws without replacement. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Distinguish path intersections from alternative outcomes and keep changing sample spaces explicit.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Mathematics: theoretical probability; mutually exclusive outcomes; combined events; probability trees; sampling without replacement.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask whether to multiply or add, whether the first event changes the second branch and whether all end paths total one. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
