Reactivity and Carbonates Lab

Free Year 9 Science practice — carbonates, the reactivity series and metal extraction. No account needed.

About Reactivity and Carbonates Lab

Predict acid-carbonate products, use displacement evidence and choose extraction routes from relative reactivity. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Apply reaction patterns and the reactivity series to predict products, compare metals and explain selected extraction methods.

Curriculum anchor: England KS3 Science: acids and carbonates, the reactivity series, displacement and extraction of metals.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to name the reaction pattern first, then justify the prediction using relative reactivity or the acid name. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
