Addition & Subtraction Sprint

Free addition and subtraction game for Years 1 to 6 — numbers to 20, 100 and 1,000, matched to the national curriculum. No account needed.

About Addition & Subtraction Sprint

Choose a number range and practise connected mental addition and subtraction questions with immediate corrective feedback. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Develop fluent mental addition and subtraction and use inverse relationships to check answers.

Curriculum anchor: England mathematics programmes of study: number, addition and subtraction across Key Stages 1 and 2.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask which number fact made the answer easier, such as bridging through ten or using a known inverse. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
