Data Workshop

Free data game for Year 2 — sort shapes, build a chart and use question starters to ask and answer questions. No account needed.

About Data Workshop

Sort twelve shapes, construct a block diagram, pictogram or tally chart, order the groups by quantity, and make a question using a starter. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Guided construction and interpretation of three data displays, sorting categories by quantity, and guided question-making. Partial support: tables and independent chart design need separate practice.

Curriculum anchor: England mathematics, Year 2 statistics: data displays, category quantities, totals and comparisons.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Try making a table for the same shapes and asking a new question without a starter. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
