Habitat Homes

Free science game for Year 2 — explore habitats, microhabitats and what animals need to survive. No account needed.

About Habitat Homes

Use short examples to explore habitat needs, microhabitat conditions and animal survival. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Recognise habitat features that meet needs and interpret supplied microhabitat observations.

Curriculum anchor:

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Read the examples together. The microhabitat mode prepares vocabulary and observation reasoning; it does not assess identifying or naming organisms. This game does not replace a field survey. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
