Measuring Sprint

Free measuring game for Years 2 to 3 — reading a ruler in centimetres, the volume of liquid in a measuring jug in millilitres, and mass in grams on a scale, matched to the national curriculum. No account needed.

About Measuring Sprint

Read generated rulers, measuring jugs and dial scales in centimetres, millilitres and grams. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Read marked scales accurately and report length, liquid volume and mass in standard metric units.

Curriculum anchor: England mathematics programmes of study: reading scales and using standard units in Years 2 and 3.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask what each unnumbered division is worth before reading the indicated value, then check the unit as well as the number. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
