Repeating Patterns

Free repeating-pattern practice for Year 2 — continue, repair and build patterns of shape, colour and orientation. No account needed.

About Repeating Patterns

Continue, repair and construct simple repeating patterns using shapes, colours with texture cues, and arrow orientations. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Identify and use repeating units to continue, repair and construct simple patterns of shape, colour and orientation.

Curriculum anchor: Linked Year 2 Sequence Objects activities and Oak National Academy’s Year 2 position-and-direction lesson on ordering and arranging objects in patterns and explaining the patterns.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to say the repeating unit aloud, then make another pattern with real objects. Colour tiles include texture cues. This game supports simple repeating patterns; it does not replace open-ended investigation, physical arranging, explanation in the learner’s own words or non-repeating growing sequences. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
