Number Words Sprint

Free number words game for Year 1 — recognising number words to 20, one more and one less, and counting on and back to 100, matched to the national curriculum. No account needed.

About Number Words Sprint

Recognise number words to 20, find one more or one less, and continue counting sequences to 100. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Recognise written number words, identify one more and one less, and continue simple counting sequences.

Curriculum anchor: England mathematics programme of study: Year 1 number and place value.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to say each number word aloud and form it independently away from the multiple-choice screen after recognising it. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
