Read and Think

Free reading game for Year 1 — read a sentence or two and work out what it tells you, or what happens next. Matched to the national curriculum. No account needed.

About Read and Think

Read a short passage, use its clues to answer one question, and explain what the text tells you or what happens next. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Make simple inferences from what is read and predict what might happen next from details in the text.

Curriculum anchor: England English programme of study: Year 1 reading comprehension through discussion of inference and prediction.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask the learner to point to the exact word or sentence that supports the answer before choosing it. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
