Science Sorter

Free science sorting game for Years 2 to 4, matched to the national curriculum — solids, liquids and gases, conductors, food chains and more. No account needed.

About Science Sorter

Sort examples into scientific groups and read a short explanation after every decision. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Classify materials and living things using observable properties and scientific roles.

Curriculum anchor: England science programmes of study: living things and habitats, states of matter and electricity in Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2.

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask which property or role proves the classification, then invite one counter-example that belongs in a different group. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
