Story Clues

Free reading game for Year 2 — use clues, follow the order of events and make predictions from short stories. No account needed.

About Story Clues

Read short stories, use clues, retrieve the order of events and choose supported predictions. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.

Curriculum purpose

Learning objective: Select an inference or prediction supported by a short passage, and identify explicitly sequenced events.

Curriculum anchor:

This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.

For parents and carers

Ask your child which words support their choice. This game supports discussion but does not assess spoken explanations or independent justification. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.

Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.

Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
