Close About Word Class Sorter
Sort highlighted words by their role in a sentence, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, tense and pronouns. The default practice mode is untimed, so the learner can think before choosing. Correct answers build a gentle celebration; mistakes receive corrective feedback and return later rather than causing a penalty spiral.
Curriculum purpose Learning objective: Identify word classes and verb tense from how words are used in complete sentences.
Curriculum anchor: England English programmes of study and Appendix 2: grammar terminology in Years 2 to 4.
This game is designed as short independent practice after an idea has been introduced. It does not replace direct teaching, mathematical or scientific discussion, or an adult checking whether the learner can explain the idea away from the screen.
For parents and carers Read the whole sentence before naming the word class, because the same spelling can do a different job in another sentence. Stop while attention is still good. A short accurate return tomorrow is more useful than extending a tired session today.
Frequently asked questions Does it need an account? No. The game runs in the browser and asks for no name, email address, school or location.
Is it timed? Practice is untimed. Where a sprint exists it is optional. Times Tables Sprint also includes MTC-style independent practice, not an expected-standard judgement.
Can it be used on a phone? Yes. Buttons support touch and keyboard use; sorting always has a tap alternative to dragging.
