Students resitting English or maths, and their parents
November 2026 GCSE Resits: Dates, Entry Deadline and Results
November 2026 GCSE resit exams run from Monday 2 to Wednesday 11 November 2026, and the common final date for entries is 4 October 2026. The autumn series covers English language and maths only (plus the Welsh-language equivalents in Wales); every other subject waits for summer 2027.
Results for the November series reach candidates on Thursday 14 January 2027. These are the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) common dates shared by the exam boards; your school, college or exam centre will set its own internal entry deadline weeks before 4 October, because someone there has to process the entry.
The cycle at a glance
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Early September 2026 | Ask your school, college or exam centre about entry now; internal deadlines come first |
| 4 October 2026 | Final date for entries |
| Monday 2 to Wednesday 11 November 2026 | Exams in English language and maths |
| Thursday 14 January 2027 | Results released to candidates |
Anyone can be entered, whether or not they sat the subject in summer, and one subject on its own is fine. A college will usually enter its own students and cover the fee as part of their programme. If you are not enrolled anywhere, including if you are home educated, you enter through an exam centre as a private candidate; the full route is on our private candidate page.
Ten weeks is enough, aimed well
The gap between results day and the November exams is about ten weeks. That is enough to move a near-miss grade, provided the work targets your actual gaps rather than the whole course. Our guide to GCSE results day, resits and Functional Skills has the full plan, including free resources; the free Year 10 maths and Year 10 English topic pages cover the same ground as the exams, with no account needed.
November 2027
Dates for the November 2027 series are published after the summer 2027 results cycle. The shape repeats each year: entries close in early October, exams run in the first half of November, results arrive in mid-January. This page will carry the exact 2027 dates when JCQ publishes them.
