GCSE Results Day 2027: Date, Times and What Happens

By TheLearnDen's editorial team · Updated 2026-08-28 · England-focused; curriculum and assessment arrangements differ across the UK.

GCSE results day 2027 is Thursday 19 August 2027. That is the day candidates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland receive their grades for the summer 2027 series. A-level results come out the week before, on Thursday 12 August 2027.

The dates are set by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), the body through which the exam boards coordinate, and they are already published in its key dates for the June 2027 series.

Schools choose their own collection arrangements on the morning, so the time you can pick results up varies; most open sometime between 8am and 10am, and many now email results too. Private candidates receive results from the exam centre that entered them, so agree in advance how yours will reach you.

Grade boundaries are published by each board on the morning of results day, not before. A boundary table tells you how many marks each grade needed, which matters if you are close to a boundary and thinking about a review of marking.

If the grades are not what you hoped

There is a well-worn set of routes: reviews of marking, the November resit series for English language and maths, and Functional Skills where it fits better. Our guide to GCSE results day, resits and Functional Skills covers all of them calmly, including what grades 3, 4 and 5 actually mean for college places. For revision between series, the free Year 10 maths and Year 10 English topic pages need no account. The immediate dates are on our November 2026 resits page; the equivalent 2027 resit dates are published after the summer series.

GCSE results day 2028

JCQ has not yet published key dates for the 2028 series. Results days follow a steady rhythm, in the second half of August with A-level results the week before GCSE results. This page will carry the exact 2028 date as soon as JCQ confirms it.
